Larson Lawn Care

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I want a company that can provide all of our lawn and landscape maintenance needs. Do you also provide other services?

We completely understand that hiring one company for everything outdoors gives a consumer peace of mind.  Since 2003, we began offering mowing, lawn maintenance and landscaping services.  We realized that as a company, if we focus on one main service, we can give the best possible results.  We specialize in fertilization and weed control, which means we will be able to give you 100% of our time, since we are not spread thin working on landscaping projects, mowing or other services.  Rest assured, we make hiring and dealing with us easy!  Simply open your estimate, click approve, then we automate the invoicing and annual renewals. We are also readily available to communicate with you if you ever have any questions or concerns through our email, text or phone availability.

  • Who will be treating my lawn?

My name is Mike Larson, I am the owner of Larson Lawn Care. I will be personally providing your lawn care program! I am a licensed applicator in the state of Missouri with over 20 years of experience in the industry. I thoroughly enjoy my work, and I do my best to give your lawn the treatment it needs. I will be communicating with my office and/or you directly if I see anything concerning your lawn throughout the year so we can take care of it immediately! I am here to educate, advise and provide a tailored program to fit your lawn care needs.

  • How many steps are in your program?

There are 7-steps in our base program. We also provide a 3-step fungus control program, a 2-step insect program and a core aeration and overseeding service in the fall.

  • By signing up for your lawn care program, will my lawn always look good?

A lawn requires many things to go in its favor to achieve maximum health and appearance. Our program is certainly a big contributor as we will feed the lawn and combat the inevitable weeds and other pests. Without a program, weeds will take over, the grass will be more susceptible to pests and drought and it will not look as good as it could. Even with our program, there are many things that are out of our control and we want to be up front about this so we can always meet your expectations.

Here are just 11 things that can cause an unfavorable lawn and these are out of our control:

    1. Is the lawn getting a sufficient amount of water or too much?
    2. Is it being mowed properly? ie, sharp blades, not removing more than ⅓ the height during each mowing.
    3. Is the soil being compacted by foot traffic, heavy machinery, etc.?
    4. Are moles causing damage and breaking the chemical barrier from our crabgrass preventer that was applied in the spring?
    5. Are your dogs causing damage from their waste, digging or compacted paths throughout?
    6. Is there (or was there) a drought and/or high heat?
    7. Is there insect damage and you did not sign up ahead of time for an additional insect control program?  We will assess your lawn on each visit and request that you sign up immediately to minimize the damage.
    8. Is there lawn fungus and you did not sign up for a fungus control program?  We will assess your lawn one each visit and request that you sign up immediately to minimize the damage.
    9. Were leaves left on the lawn for too long in the fall/winter smothering it of oxygen and sunlight? Did you or your mowing company mulch too many leaves into the lawn with the mower smothering it as well?
    10. Is there heavy shade not allowing enough sunlight to the lawn and the tree roots are robbing the lawn of water and nutrients?
    11. Is there an area of the lawn that holds water?

In addition to our 7-step base program, we recommend you sign up for our fungus and insect control programs along with core aeration & overseeding each year to eliminate the potential threats that we can control.

  • How soon will we see results from your program?

Please keep in mind that some lawns require at least a year or possibly more to turn it around if it was in bad shape when our program began. There is no instant fix, and a lawn requires consistency and likely additional steps to achieve maximum health and appearance. We don’t want you to feel like your money is being wasted, or that you should hire another company because you are not seeing the results right away. We are here to help and we are confident that over time, your lawn will be thicker, greener and more pleasant to look at!

  • If I sign up for your lawn care program, I will not have weeds right?

Actually, this is a misconception and many companies advertise that you will have a 100% weed free lawn. This is not possible, no matter what company you hire. It is our job to feed your lawn through fertilization to make it as healthy as possible which will help keep weeds out, then we treat weeds on every visit starting with the 2nd application. The weeds have to be present for us to treat them. There are a few weeds; like nutsedge, which is very tough to kill and requires multiple treatments.

We often hear from new clients that they were not happy with their previous provider due to lawn complications. We want to make sure we meet, or even exceed your expectations. This is why we will be doing our best to educate you about what our program can and cannot do. However, if you notice anything of concern on your lawn between our visits, we will happily come out to diagnose the problem. If you are taking advantage of all of our add-on services, there is no charge for the follow up visit!

  • Should I be worried about my dog or children on the lawn after a treatment?

Rest assured, we have the safety of your family in mind, including your pets. With being a trained and licensed pesticide applicator, I will adhere to all state regulations to ensure your safety. We ask that you remain off of the lawn until our weed control product has dried. Once dry (typically 2-3hrs), you can re-enter the lawn.

  • Do I need to water my lawn?

Absolutely! Please water your lawn. Just wait at least 24 hours after our application if possible. A lawn should get at least 1” of water per week. Please keep in mind that the summer is harsh on a lawn and it requires water to keep it as healthy as possible during the stressful period. I understand that it can be hard to find time to water if you do not have a sprinkler system, especially if you have a large lawn.

Here are a few tips if you do not have time:

    • Pull the hose out, attach the sprinkler and focus on high profile areas like the front yard only.
    • Set a reminder so you don’t forget to turn it off.
    • Water only once a week if you are too busy.  A good way to start a new habit is to attach it to a habit you already have; like eating Sunday morning breakfast.  Start your sprinkler before Sunday morning breakfast every week and you shouldn’t forget.
    • You could ask a neighbor to water for you.
    • …or invest in a sprinkler system!
  • How do I pay my bill?

We email or mail monthly invoices, but we highly encourage you to save your card on file, so you can pay your invoice automatically. It is safe and secure through Stripe. You will receive a monthly statement that describes the service(s) that were provided. You will be charged on a monthly basis if you had services the previous month.

  • How does the annual auto renewal process work?

Our 7-step and add on programs (excluding core aeration & overseeding) automatically renew each year. We will send an email notification at least 1 month before services automatically renew the following year. This notification will include any changes we may have made to our program including pricing, so you are well informed.

  • Will we be notified about each upcoming service?

We typically do not send an upcoming service notice except at the beginning of the year to let you know our program(s) are auto renewing, or if we need to arrive on Saturday/Sunday, and if you have requested a notice. You may receive a video that explains what we are treating and what to expect before each application begins.

  • How can we communicate with you?

We have several communication methods: Razan is in the office from 8am-4:30pm M-F and Saturdays from 9am-12pm.  Email: office@larsonlawncare.com, we also email from our CRM software and that is a reply only email address, text messaging or phone call: 314-374-2747

  • What is crabgrass and how is it treated?

Crabgrass is an annual weedy grass that spreads through seed. Each plant produces up to 150,000 seeds if left to grow. This is a very invasive weed and is controlled through preventative applications in early spring. This is why we highly recommend signing up for our program as early in the year as possible. Post emergent applications help if the plant is treated before it matures.

If you signed up for our lawn care program after the spring, you may have missed our crabgrass preventer. You may have more crabgrass than normal this year and we will treat it when we see it with a post emergence application, but please understand that depending on the maturity of the plant, it may be hard to get rid of. We will apply a crabgrass preventer next spring, which will give your lawn a much better chance of meeting your expectations.
